Cleethorpes Carnival Parade - a potted history.
The Cleethorpes Carnival Parade has been staged every year for the last 41 years starting in 1976. The Parade had always been a main focus of the summer programme of activities for tourists and the local community alike and at one point was the largest parade of its type in Europe. Over the years the event has supported many local community groups with donations from the collection as well as creating numerous arts and community projects through participation.
The Parade was first organised by the then Cleethorpes borough council and subsequently North East Lincolnshire Council but it was decided in 2007 to no longer fund or manage the event.
But North East Lincs Tourist Forum who knew with a lot of hard work could get it back on the road decided to keep it going, A small willing group of volunteers became Cleethorpes Events Ltd a non profit making organisation that ploughs every penny back into the parade
We were always looking for funding to keep this community based event in place and in 2012 Young's Seafood stepped forward to sponser and partnered Cleethorpes Events in organising the parade. For nearly six months of every year charities, communities and organisations work together organising floats costumes and ideas as all monies collected at the parade is shared out between participating local charities.
